A graduate of The Art Institute of Boston, Karl began his career at Banks & Co., a Boston advertising agency, where he shaped the visual identities of major accounts including AT&T, Cole Haan, and Dunkin' Donuts. In 1984, he founded Smizer Design in Boston's South End, bringing senior-level brand strategy and corporate identity design to clients across Greater Boston, Connecticut, and the broader New England region.
Today, Smizer Design operates as an agile, collaborative studio — curating and leading virtual teams of specialized creative practitioners to meet each client's unique goals. This model gives Boston-area businesses access to deep, multidisciplinary expertise without the overhead of a large agency, and the personal attention only a boutique firm can deliver.
